KALBELIYA DANCE
An integral part of the Kalbelia culture, Kalbelia Dance is one of the most aesthetically
beautiful Rajasthani folk dances. The performance involves graceful movements like swirling, swaying,
gyrating etc and only women are allowed to take part in it. Kalbelia Dance form is performed to the tune
which is played using a Been or Poongi, together with other musical instruments. Women wear traditional
Kalbelia dress while performing and replicate the movements of a serpent. The men of the community
provide the music and play the instruments. The Kalbelia Dance is not taught. Instead, children are
expected to learn it by watching the elders’ performances.
